Common Sense Web Design
…making a website that your customers can relate with
The most important part of a website is what your visitors want to see: information.
Everything else is secondary.
Planning your site is key.
The more we plan on paper before going to the computer, the more quickly your site will be completed. It is always better, faster and less expensive to take the time to plan your entire site, then to sleep on it and come back to make adjustments on paper before putting your site together on the computer.
If there is anything in your plan that you don’t think is important, then you are probably right. Follow your instincts and take it out. If you decide later that it really needs to be in there, it can be added (preferably before the site gets built).
Cute sounds, music, the ubiquitous “flash intro” or other bells and whistles are usually not worth the time or money to put into your site and become annoying to your visitors. If you choose to put them in, give your visitors a way to either skip them or turn them off.
Remember that your website is advertising and all advertising rules apply. “Less is more.” Keep your site clutter free. You are presenting your service to people who don’t spend a lot of time on a single web page. Keep your writing simple and to the point.

Plan for about an hour to thoroughly discuss your needs. See the “Our First Meeting” section for details about what to bring.
